Winfield Arena is Lake Country's small-town rink on Bottom Wood Lake Road, and it keeps skating cheap and simple: the Sunday afternoon public skate (3 to 4 p.m.) and the Wednesday evening session (7 to 8 p.m.) are free, and Friday night's DJ Skate from 7:30 to 9 p.m. costs $2 for ages 8 to 17 and $4 for adults, with children seven and under always free. Ten-visit punch cards are $15 for youth and $35 for adults. There are no skate rentals or sharpening at the arena, so bring your own, and helmets are recommended. For hockey players the highlight is Friday-night Adult Shinny from 9:15 to 10:45 p.m. — $7, goalies free — which is registration-only through the District's online system; the window opens Thursday at 1 p.m. and closes Friday at 3:30 p.m., so book early because it fills.
