Best Sushi in Kelowna

Kelowna has more sushi than you might expect for a lake town. This guide sorts it by the kind of meal you want: a seat at a chef's counter, a dependable neighbourhood spot, a cheap pile of rolls, a quick casual bite, or an izakaya night with ramen and skewers.

Most picks are in Kelowna, from downtown and Pandosy to the Mission, Glenmore and Rutland. A few are across the bridge in West Kelowna and up the highway in Lake Country. For more of the city, see our Kelowna restaurants page.

Chef's counters & a night out

For when the meal is the evening's plan.

  • SUSHI HAYASHI (Kelowna): a tiny counter where you watch the chef work up close, which is half the draw. The sushi tower and the katsu both get specific praise.
  • Wa Skew'r Sushi & Bar (Kelowna): a Japanese izakaya that goes a step past the usual sushi menu. Order skewers and sashimi, then work through the sake list.
  • Bluetail Sushi - Commerce (Kelowna): dim lighting, a late-night crowd and experimental rolls for anyone ready to skip the California roll. Start with the beef tataki.
  • Momo Sushi Mission (Kelowna): creative special rolls are the reason to come, so order one of those over the usual. Attentive tea service runs through the meal.

Neighbourhood sushi bars

Smaller, steady places that regulars return to.

  • Aomi Sushi Japanese Restaurant (Kelowna): an unassuming Lower Mission spot where the yakiudon and sashimi have always been the strengths. On a first visit, order what the regulars trust.
  • Yama Kitchen (Kelowna): a locally owned sushi spot that regulars praise for consistent quality. Go at lunch for the generous sashimi bento.
  • Mizu Japanese Restaurant (Kelowna): handmade Japanese food on Pandosy Street since 2000, now under new owners. A casual spot for a family meal, with generous rolls and easy parking.
  • Mabui Kitchen (Kelowna): a cozy Mission-area spot with a loyal following for its distinctive menu. Order the temaki, and don't skip the cream soda float.

All-you-can-eat & value

Rolls that won't stretch the budget.

  • Tokyo 1 (Kelowna): the city's only all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant. You order on a tablet, and the dining room feels upscale for the price.
  • Maki Sushi Restaurant (Kelowna): a cozy, homey room on Harvey Ave with reasonable prices and a tofu-friendly menu. The dancing eel and Kelowna maki rolls are the specialties.
  • Yuzu Bowl and Bistro (Kelowna): a Japanese bistro that welcomes kids. Time your visit for the happy hour roll deal.

Quick & casual

Easy weeknight sushi, and one for plant-based eaters.

  • Dozo House (Kelowna): a casual spot in Glenmore's Kane Road plaza for sushi, ramen, tempura and bento boxes. Reviewers mention quick, friendly service and good value.
  • OKA Japanese Restaurant (Kelowna): a family-friendly room in Orchard Plaza on Cooper Road, with sushi rolls, tempura and chicken karaage. Reviewers mention quick service.
  • Naked Cafe (Kelowna): a dedicated vegan cafe and a longtime favourite for plant-based eating. Its name was made on the sushi bowls and the Japanese curry.

Across the bridge & up the highway

Worth the short drive from downtown Kelowna. Our West Kelowna restaurants guide has more on that side of the lake.

  • Asuki sushi (West Kelowna): a newer spot with creative, generously portioned rolls at reasonable prices. Order something you wouldn't normally try.
  • Ginza Sushi West Kelowna (West Kelowna): consistent, budget-friendly sushi rather than a special-occasion spot. Reviewers point to the yam roll and miso soup combination.
  • Turtle Bay GOGO Sushi (Lake Country): a sushi spot in Winfield that locals say is worth the detour.

Beyond sushi: ramen & izakaya

For a bowl of broth or a group night out. Our soup, ramen and pho guide has more ramen across the valley.

  • O-Zeki Japanese Restaurant (Kelowna): private tatami-style booths suit a group. Book one and order the group platters and the tonkotsu ramen.
  • Wasabi Ramen and Izakaya (Kelowna): tucked off Bernard Ave, with a quiet, devoted following. Order the okonomiyaki and one of the rich ramen broths.
