Privacy Policy
Okanagan Roam is a small, locally run website. We collect as little personal information as we can, we never sell it, and this page explains exactly what happens to it.
What we collect, and why
- Contact form. When you send us a message, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply. The form is delivered to our inbox through FormSubmit, an email relay service.
- List your venue and List an event. These forms ask for business or event details and a contact name and email (and a phone number if you choose to give one). We keep them so we can review the listing and follow up with you.
- Spam protection. To limit abuse, we briefly use your IP address to cap how many messages can be sent, and we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it with listing submissions.
- Emails to businesses. We may contact businesses at their publicly listed email address about their free listing. Reply “unsubscribe” and we won’t email you again.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in general — which pages are popular, roughly where visitors come from and what devices they use. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. We use the reports to improve the site, not to identify you. You can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Masked session recordings
We use Microsoft Clarity to automatically record masked interactions such as clicks, scrolling and navigation on selected public pages to improve the site. We use its limited, cookieless mode: advertising and analytics cookie storage are denied, and page visits are not linked into a persistent visitor journey. Text and form fields are masked. Private forms, trip-planning pages, internal visits, and pages with URL parameters or fragments are excluded.
We honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track browser signals, and earlier recording refusals saved in your browser. These prevent the recorder from loading. Clarity processes usage, device and network data; see the Microsoft Privacy Statement. This cookieless setting applies to Clarity; Google Analytics is separate.
Saved in your own browser
Your favourites, your trip and your language choice are saved in your own browser on your own device. We don’t receive them, and clearing your browser’s site data removes them. When you build a trip, the choices you make (such as towns, dates and interests) are sent to our server to create the plan; they are not linked to your name or email.
Services that help run the site
Like any website, the pages are delivered by hosting and network providers (including Railway and Cloudflare), which process technical information such as your IP address to send you the page and keep the site secure. Fonts come from Google Fonts and maps use OpenStreetMap, which receive the same kind of technical information when your browser loads them.
Your location on the map
The map asks for your location only when you tap the locate button (Near me). Your browser keeps it on your device to sort what’s near you; it is never sent to Okanagan Roam, saved, or put in a link. When you ask for directions on the map, your starting point and the destination are sent to Mapbox, which works out the route. Opening a place in Google Maps or Apple Maps hands the destination to that app.
Searching by voice
The microphone on the map is used only when you tap it. Your browser’s own speech service turns what you say into text (in Chrome that is Google; on an iPhone, Apple), and the map searches those words the same way as typed ones. Okanagan Roam never receives the recording.
What you search on the map
When you search on the map, the words you search and how many results they found may be counted anonymously with Google Analytics, so we can see what people look for and don’t find, and add it. Your location, a dropped pin and the distance you pick are never sent with them.
What we never do
We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don’t use it for anything other than the reasons above.
How long we keep it, and your choices
We keep messages and submissions only as long as we need them to reply, review a listing and keep it accurate. You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you at any time by emailing info@okanaganroam.com. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s privacy law (PIPEDA). If you have a concern we can’t resolve, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date below.
