Munson Pond Park

Munson Pond is Kelowna's birding jewel hidden in plain sight: a 9.8-hectare urban wetland near the corner of Benvoulin and KLO roads that protects one of British Columbia's rarest ecosystems, a cottonwood–water birch forest, around a 3.8-hectare pond. A one-kilometre gravel loop circles the water past boardwalks, two viewing platforms and interpretive signs, and the path is accessible, so it works as well for a quiet family walk as for a serious morning with binoculars. More than 225 species have been recorded here, from migrating geese in spring and fall to warblers, waterfowl and the occasional rarity that keeps the local birders coming back, and it is a signed stop on the BC Bird Trail. To protect that wildlife, dogs are not permitted anywhere in the park — bylaw officers visit regularly and do ticket — and it is a place for slow, quiet looking rather than picnics or play. Turn west onto Munson Road off Benvoulin to find the small paved parking lot.
