McKinney Nordic Ski Club – Snowshoe & Cross-Country Trails

Twenty-seven kilometres up McKinney Road from Oliver, a few minutes before the road reaches Baldy Mountain Resort, the McKinney Nordic Ski Club keeps a small, volunteer-run trail area alive on the old logging roads south of the mountain. Right now it is a snowshoe destination: roughly five kilometres of marked snowshoe trail — the Dogleg Trail among them — maintained through the winter by club volunteers, with a shelter at the Junction, a toilet at the trailhead and use by donation. The club's nine kilometres of cross-country ski trail are still there, but they are not being groomed: the club's groomer and its long-time operator retired after the 2023/24 season, and while the members have the funds and the will to bring track-setting back, no grooming has been announced for the coming winter, so treat the ski trails as ungroomed backcountry touring at best and check the club's Facebook page for the latest. What you get in return is elevation — the trails sit around 1,400 metres, with Baldy's 2,300-metre summit above — reliable snow, quiet, and a place where dogs and families are welcome and parking is free. Founded in 1990 as the Inkameep X-Country Ski Club and moved to this higher, snowier site in 1995, it is the kind of grassroots outdoor club the South Okanagan does well; if you are heading to Baldy anyway, it is an easy stop on the way up.
