U-Pick Orchards, Farm Stands & Farm Visits
Harvest season is a good time to get out among the Okanagan's orchards and farms. This guide gathers places where you can pick your own, meet the farm animals, shop a fruit stand, taste wine or cider among the trees, or learn how orchards shaped the valley.
What's ready to pick depends on the crop and the year, so check each farm's listing or website before you head out.
Pick your own
- Davison Orchards (Vernon): A family farm on the edge of Vernon with free admission. In season you can u-pick apples and pumpkins, and tractor-pulled apple-bin train tours roll through the orchards and fields. Kids love the free Crazy Cow Kids Corral play area and the animal barn.
- Paynter's Fruit Market (West Kelowna): A family farm growing fruit since 1919. Pick your own in season or grab what they've already picked, book a farm tour, then finish with a coffee or a scoop of ice cream at the on-site café. In fall, the pumpkin patch and seasonal events make it an easy family outing.
- Rose Hill Orchard & Cidery (Lake Country): Pick your own cherries, peaches or apples, then trade the bucket for a cider flight under the trees. It's a working orchard with a farm shop, picnic tables and lawn games for the kids.
- Sparrowgrass Field & Flower (Armstrong): A family farm on Knob Hill Road where you can wander the rows and cut your own u-pick flowers. There's a farmstand, a gift shop and a little café, plus seasonal happenings including a fall vintage market. Asparagus, peonies and heritage pumpkins mark the seasons, so check what's on before you drive out.
Farm animals and a full day out
- Don-O-Ray Farm Adventure (Kelowna): A petting zoo where you can feed goats, a pony, ducks and bunnies, plus a 7,000-square-foot hedge maze. The market sells fresh produce, baked goods and ice cream, and in October the farm turns into a Haunted Farm Adventure.
- Log Barn 1912 (Armstrong): A rustic farm market and café with sheep, alpacas and llamas you can feed, and fresh-baked pies that reviewers call genuinely good.
- Covert Farms Family Estate (Oliver): A working organic vineyard with a play area for kids and a petting zoo with farm animals. Let the kids loose while you taste.
Farm stands and farm cafés
- Crick Coffee and Farm Store (Summerland): A shady Trout Creek patio right next to an apple orchard, with farm-fresh produce for sale alongside your coffee. Dogs and kids are welcome.
- Farm Gate Winery & Fruit Stand (Kaleden): Half fruit stand, half tasting bar. Grab local fruit, taste through an easygoing lineup of wines and walk out with a case at farm-gate prices.
Tasting among the orchards
- Elephant Island Winery (Naramata): Berry and apricot fruit wines from an orchard setting on the Aikins Loop, poured in a tasting room with real family warmth.
- Millionaires' Row Cider Co. (Summerland): A family-run cidery on a historic orchard, with a picnic area, board games and apple slushies for the kids.
- Ailm Estate (Kelowna): Sparkling Reserve Brut and estate wines poured on a covered patio above the orchards of southeast Kelowna. Small, unhurried and personal, and open Thursday to Sunday.
- Here's the Thing Vineyards (Oliver): An orchard patio on Black Sage Road, where the $10 tasting fee goes entirely to ALS research.
Orchard history, and an orchard walk
- Okanagan Wine & Orchard Museum (Laurel Packinghouse) (Kelowna): The valley's fruit-growing and winemaking story, told in the historic 1918 Laurel Packinghouse in the Cultural District.
- Lake Country Museum & Archives (Lake Country): A heritage museum in Okanagan Centre covering Lake Country's story, from the syilx people and early orchards to the Applebox Belles. Volunteers offer guided looks at the collection.
- Summerland Museum & Archives (Summerland): Covers Syilx history, early orchard farming and the Kettle Valley Railway, with kids' drop-in workshops.
- Summerland Rotary Trail Lakeshore Loop (Summerland): A 6 km walk from Peach Orchard Beach Park north to Crescent Beach. The return leg winds back through orchards and vineyards.
