Beaver Lake — Swalwell Lake on the maps — has a public side as well as a resort: a 14-site Recreation Site with its own boat launch next door to Beaver Lake Mountain Resort, where you can pitch a tent for next to nothing and fish the same water that gets 35,000 stocked rainbows a year. It is user-maintained and first come, so treat it gently and bring what you need; the resort's cabins, boat rentals and store are a short walk away if you want a bit more comfort.
