Where to Eat & Après at Big White
Big White has more places to eat and drink than most people expect from a ski village: lodge pubs for the end of the ski day, a set-menu bistro and a steakhouse for a night out, ramen, sushi, pizza delivery and a poutine counter, plus coffee shops that open early enough for first chair.
Places are grouped by the kind of meal you're after. Price levels run from $ (cheap and quick) to $$$$ (a splurge), where the listing has one.
Après-ski & pubs
- Moose Lounge (Big White): a revitalized lounge in the Happy Valley Day Lodge that has brought back longtime favourite après-ski traditions regulars had missed. Come at the end of your ski day; kids are welcome, and there are sports TVs and live music.
- Snowshoe Sam's (Big White): the village's lively, high-energy pub, with pool tables and sports TVs. Monday pool nights pack the place and have become a village tradition; any other night, catch a game. $$
- Black Diamond Bar & Grill (Big White): a warm, alpine-lodge room in Big White Village with a beer selection deep enough for a serious craft beer crowd. Treat it as an après-ski beer stop first and a dinner spot second, since food reviews are more mixed. $$
- Fourth Ace Bar & Smokehouse (Big White): off the main strip, and you can ski in from the Perfection run. There's a great view, an arcade in the basement and shareable platters like The Meat Sweats built for groups; happy hour too. $$
- Fat Marmot (Big White): a ramen bar and Asian fusion restaurant at the Inn at Big White, with a fire-table patio made for sunset après-ski. Order the Korean chicken outside, but head indoors for ramen, which isn't served on the patio. $$
Sit-down dinners
- 6° Bistro (Big White): an intimate, upscale set-menu bistro with a warm outdoor fireplace and fur seating. The tasting menu has vegetarian options, and it suits a celebratory splurge, even with kids along. $$$$
- Kettle Valley Steakhouse (Big White): an award-winning upscale steakhouse on the top floor of the Happy Valley Day Lodge, recently reopened after a five-year hiatus. Order the tenderloin or bison steak and pair it from the Okanagan-rooted wine list. $$$$
- Sopra: Sam's Italian Kitchen (Big White): a cozy, upscale Italian restaurant above Snowshoe Sam's, well suited to family gatherings. The eggplant parmigiana and chicken scallopini stand out. $$$
- The Woods Restaurant (Big White): a cozy spot for a warm meal after a day on the slopes, with welcoming staff. Order the seasonal beef dip or the fire-roasted calamari. Dogs are welcome, and there's a patio and live music. $$
- Sasquatch Sushi (Big White): in building 2 of Stonebridge Lodge, serving both traditional and North American style sushi, from nigiri and rolls to sashimi and miso soup. $$
- Big White Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides & Dining Tours (Big White): the dinner version takes you by sleigh through snow-covered trails to a cabin in the woods, where the resort's culinary team serves a family-style gourmet meal at two tables of six. Coffee, tea and water are provided and your own wine is welcome. Book at least a day ahead, and tell the Activities Desk about dietary needs 72 hours out.
Pizza, burgers & quick bites
- Underground Pizza (Big White): a dog-friendly pizza spot with generous toppings and delivery that stays fast even in winter conditions. Regulars recommend the BBQ chicken pizza, made with real chunks of chicken. $$
- Alpine Burger Co. (Big White): the burger counter inside the Happy Valley Day Lodge, beside the skating rink, tube park and sleigh-ride meeting spot. A handy refuel for families spending the day in Happy Valley, and it stays open into the evening. Lara's Gondola connects it to the Village Centre for free.
- SPUDS at The Ridge Day Lodge (Big White): a playful, potato-focused quick-serve spot with six poutines, friendly, talkative staff and an open, relaxed eating area. $
- VISTA at Black Forest Day Lodge (Big White): a ski-in ski-out restaurant with a beautiful mountain view and outdoor seating, good for a pit stop mid-ski or mid-snowshoe. Season pass holders get a 10% discount. $
- Moonlight Bistro (Big White): a cabin-in-the-woods style bistro at the base of the Gem Lake chair, where skiers stop for warming drinks and quick-serve meals and treats between runs. $
- The Market (Big White): Big White's full-service grocery store, with a bistro serving ready-made dishes and weekly specials. Its cold beer, wine and liquor counter carries over 300 local and imported wines, handy for stocking a condo.
Cafés & breakfast
- Clocktower Coffee Co. (Big White): the ski-in, ski-out coffee shop in the Village Centre Mall, open from 7am. Order the strong Canadiano and one of the excellent pastries, and come early at busy times, when seating runs short. $
- Toasty (Big White): a cozy coffee and pastry shop in Big White Village known for excellent oversized donuts. Reviewers say they stay soft for days, so pick up an extra for later. $
Family-friendly
- Cabin Kitchen + Bar at Whitefoot Lodge (Big White): works for every age at a family dinner, with a proper kids' menu and trivia nights for the grown-ups. Regulars order the mac and cheese with braised beef; check whether trivia lines up with your stay. $$
- Bullwheel (Big White): a cozy, family-friendly lodge restaurant in Big White Village where sweeping mountain views back up the comfort food. Kids get a real steak and fries rather than a watered-down kids' menu, and the espresso martini is the regulars' reward after the last run. $$
