Camel's Hump

Camel's Hump is the two-humped mountain you see looking east from Lumby, the core of a volcano about 40 million years old, and Tourism Vernon rates the 5.5 km trail Difficult. The hike starts with 1.1 km along the road from the parking area, then climbs close to 200 metres through forest to the first hump and its viewpoint, drops about 75 metres into the saddle, and scrambles up a small rock face to the second summit, where the trail circles a rocky ridge with views over Lumby and Lavington, north to the Mabel Lake valley and SilverStar, and east to the Monashees before returning the same way. Access is by forest service road: from Highway 6 east of Lumby turn onto Creighton Valley Road, then Clier Lake Forest Service Road, then Camel's Hump Forest Service Road, staying left to the parking area 5 km in. Dogs must be leashed under the regional dog-control bylaw.
