sw̓iw̓s Provincial Park

sw̓iw̓s Provincial Park, formerly Haynes Point, is a sand spit that reaches almost all the way across Osoyoos Lake just south of town. Cottonwoods shade a narrow picnic terrace with tables above the sandy beach, a marsh boardwalk trail explores the wetland, and a single concrete boat ramp serves the lake (stay between the yellow markers in the narrow channel). It is operated by the Osoyoos Indian Band, with flush toilets, on-site parking and trailer parking at the launch, and 41 campsites for the April 1 to October 14 season (gate 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.). Take the warnings seriously: swimming and wading near the exposed sandbar at the tip carry a real risk of undercurrents and steep drop-offs, winds can be severe, poison ivy is common, and there are no lifeguards. Dogs must be leashed; the Town notes a dog swimming area east of the day-use area.
