Apricus takes its name from a medieval Latin word meaning basking in sunshine, and the South Okanagan sun is the whole idea here. This is a boutique tasting room inside District Wine Village north of Oliver, and one of the only wineries in Canada with primarily Indigenous ownership — a partnership between Indigenous and non-Indigenous owners, on the traditional, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. The portfolio is deliberately small: pour through four wines for $10, refunded if you take a bottle home, and you will cover a lot of ground, from a light and refreshing Pinot Gris to a bold Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant Meritage blend. Because it sits in the Village, you can walk from this tasting bar to the next one without moving your car. Hours are seasonal, running daily through summer and closing in January, so check before a winter visit.
